Roger Blane Summers

Roger Blane Summers, age 68, of Elizabeth, Indiana passed away unexpectedly and returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was blessed with and survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen (Shirley) Summers, sisters, Brenda Hartman and Debbie Summers; his sons, Kevin (Viraj) Summers and Jeremy (Rafaela) Summers; grandsons, Waylon, Madox, Micah, Blaine, and Luke, all of whom he was especially proud, and many nieces and nephews.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Larry Hartman and Michael Thompson.

Roger was born on August 14th, 1956, in New Albany, Indiana, the third child and only son of Charley and Ilah (Enlow) Summers. Roger lived most of his life atop the beautiful knobs of rural southwestern Floyd County, Indiana. He roamed and explored the hills above and the valleys below. As a child, his parents fostered the development of an excellent work ethic and a love for the family farm, which he proudly tended for more than 50 years. After graduation from Floyd Central High School, he pursued a lifelong career in construction, where he obtained respect for his precision, care, and commitment to excellence in all of the projects he bid on and managed. He most recently worked for Miranda Construction for nearly a decade, where he was nicknamed "The Doctor" for his knowledge and problem-solving skills. Roger was born with keen sense of humor and was quite the jokester, always ready with a witty remark, which kept those around him laughing. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for hunting and fishing, a hobby he loved to share with his sons and good friends. He especially loved his Alaska trips, eventually obtaining an Alaska Guide license. Roger will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A Visitation for Roger will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A Visitation will occur Friday, January 31, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at House of God Five Mile Lane Church, 4025 5 Mile Ln, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A Funeral Service will occur Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at House of God Five Mile Lane Church, 4025 5 Mile Ln, New Albany, Indiana 47150 with burial to follow at Antioch Cemetery.
