ROBERT JOHN ROTH, SR., 97, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016. He was born June 8, 1919 in Huntingburg, Indiana to the late Leonard and Myrtle Lasher Roth. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. A broadcast engineer at WAVE radio and television, Bob helped bring television to Louisville in the late forties when WAVE, then channel 5, now 3, began broadcasting. He was also a lifelong member of the IBEW, a labor union that improved the working conditions for all electrical workers everywhere. Bob was an avid gardener and cared for his beautiful roses and African violets until his death. He also was a carpenter who built beautiful furniture, some with decorative inlay designs, that he shared with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Dot; eldest son, Robert; and brother, Jerry.
Survivors include his sons, David Roth of Jeffersonville, Indiana and Rick Roth (Beckie) of Huntsville, Alabama; sister, Betty Phillips (James) of New Albany, Indiana; four grandchildren, Vickie Carlson (Keith) of Ballwin, Missouri, Robert Roth III (Beth) of Ballwin, Missouri, Stephanie Baxter (Lance) of Freeport, Florida, and Grant Roth (Christie) of Somerville, Alabama; 15 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. We must include as survivors all of Bob’s friends, neighbors, and business associates who cared for him deeply, valued his friendship, and will miss his wit, experience, and knowledge.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, September 29, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, Indiana with entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.
