Phyllis graduated from New Albany High School in 1961 and dedicated many years to Clark Memorial Hospital, where she worked in IT and the medical records department until her retirement. Her hobbies brought her great joy; she loved sewing, scrapbooking, doing puzzles, collecting seashells, and swimming. As a teenager, Phyllis was an ice skater and cherished her first job at Emery Ice Cream in New Albany.
On September 17, 1971, Phyllis married Dannie Smith, the love of her life. Together, they shared 53 beautiful years of marriage, filled with love and devotion. Phyllis’s favorite place in the world was Sanibel Island, where she found peace and happiness on the beach in the warm Florida sunshine. It became her little paradise and second home over the years.
Above all, Phyllis treasured her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Dannie; her children Brian Hobbs and Danielle Mitchell (Nate); and her grandchildren Zachary Hobbs, Garrett Mitchell, and Cassie Mitchell. Phyllis’s grandchildren adored their Granny, and she cherished every moment spent caring for them. Her family loved her deeply and will miss her terribly. As we grieve her loss, we find comfort in the promise of eternal life and the assurance that she is now with her Savior. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain forever in our hearts.
"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." - John 14:2
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and doctors at the University of Louisville Hospital. Your kindness, compassion, and dedication made Mom comfortable during her final days on Earth. Your care and support brought comfort to our family, and we are deeply thankful for everything you did for her.
