Martin Arthur Whitten, 93, died Friday, July 19, 2019 at The Historic Villages of Silvercrest. The son of the late James and Authelia (Slinker) Whitten, Martin was born May 23, 1926 in Princeton, Indiana. He was a WWII Army veteran, retired from L&N Railroad after 40 years of service, and was a member of Culbertson Baptist Church in New Albany. Martin was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and loved I.U. basketball. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeff Johnson; and siblings, Dorothy Mae, June, and Jimmy.
Martin is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy Jane (Hollen) Whitten; children, Janie Estes (John), Becky Johnson (Gary), Cathy Cogswell (Tom), and Tim Whitten; former daughter-in-law, Mari Beth Whitten; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Silvercrest for the loving care and support extended to Martin.
Visitation will be 11 am ~ 1 pm Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 1 pm Wednesday in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel with private entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
