Martha A. (Schmelz) Gibson

Martha A. Schmelz Gibson, 66, passed away December 31, 2021. The daughter of the late Mark George and Irene B. Kruer Schmelz, Martha was born January 22, 1955 in New Albany, Indiana. She had worked at Ford Motor Company, Rohm & Haas, and Robinson-Nugent. Martha was an avid bingo player, bowled a perfect game years ago, and loved her diet cokes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Tony Schmelz and Velma Salesman.

Martha is survived by two sons, Todd Gibson (Alexis) and Ted Gibson; siblings, Paul Schmelz (Peggy), Stephen Schmelz (Sherri), Thelma Welsbacher (Karl), Brenda Baxter (Norbert), Bonnie Krider (Rick), and Suzy Visser (Marcel); grandchildren, Christopher, Hailey, Liam, Corbin, and Gracen; godchildren, Melissa Rodriguez and John Salesman; and her bingo friends, Carla, Wilma, Diedra, and Barbara.

Visitation will be 2 pm ~ 8 pm Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. There will be a Prayer Service and Sharing at 7:15 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Her Funeral Mass will be 11 am Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 415 E. Eighth Street, New Albany, with entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
