Maria Carney

Born on October 2, 1937, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, to Carl F. and Muriel A. Berbet, Maria spent her early years in Jeffersonville and attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School. She was proud to be a member of the first graduating class of Our Lady of Providence High School in 1955. She continued her education at Nazareth College, earning a degree in Medical Technology in 1959.

Maria dedicated her professional life to healthcare, working at St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Audubon Hospital, and University Hospital in downtown Louisville. Her compassion and expertise left a lasting impact on both colleagues and patients.

A lifelong learner and traveler, Maria found great joy in books and adventure. She could often be found in her favorite chair with a book in hand, always wishing for just a little more time to start the next one.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Patrick E. Carney (Kimberly) and Theresa M. Berbet (Jon Higgins); and her grandchildren, Annemarie E. Hensley and Carl P. Carney.

Her warmth, intellect, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on April 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

Her Funeral Service will be held at Kraft Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM.
