Obituary of Larry Wayne Barr
Larry Wayne Barr, 72, passed away March 2, 2023 surrounded by his family at Robley Rex VA Medical Center. He was born at St. Edwards Hospital in New Albany to Norman Barr and Margaret Lucille Archibald. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1969 and was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War by the US Army. He attended basic training at Ft. Knox and served his country in combat on the frontlines in Vietnam. He was injured in the line of duty and was temporarily blinded. Upon healing from his injuries, he received an honorable discharge and returned home. On November 18th, 1972, he married Brenda Conrad and they began their life together. He worked at the American Standard Foundry in Louisville for over 20 years. After the closure of American Standard, Larry began a career at Lear Seating Corporation in Louisville working on the line before working the line at Ford Motor Company. Larry retired in 2017 and enjoyed spending his time in his garage where he repaired cars. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling around to area campgrounds with his wife. Larry could always be found at a campground with his space and RV decorated for Halloween. He cherished his 1955 Chevy BelAir Convertible which he restored from the ground up. Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda, his son, Jason Barr and his husband John, of Jeffersonville, his daughter, Kelly Byrd and her husband Phillip, of New Albany, his loving grandchildren, Taylor Barr, Frankie Wilkerson and Samantha Wilkerson and his great-granddaughter, Adalynn Barr. His brothers, David Barr of Virgina, Roy Barr of California, Greg Barr of Arkansas and his sisters Diane Dass of Indianapolis, Brenda Dotson of Tennessee, Linda Slone of Louisville, Patty Clarkson of Lexington and Mary Williams of Florida. Visitation for Larry will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Funeral service will be Friday, March 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM, Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Burial will be Friday, March 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road, Madison, Indiana 47250.
