JAMES TODD SWEARINGEN, 53, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. The son of the late James “Bert” and Doris (Parris) Swearingen, Todd was born July 19, 1963 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Kathleen (Blankenbaker) Kunzman.
Todd was a 1981 graduate of Clarksville High School and graduate of I.U. Bloomington. He worked at the U.S. Census Bureau and prior to that for American Commercial Barge Lines. He spoke fluent German, had a black belt in karate, was a former pit crew dad for the Floyd Central Highlander Marching Band, was a member of Ohio Falls Methodist Church, and attended Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. Todd was also an avid history and film buff, loved to travel, and had a wicked sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborah (Kunzman) Swearingen; sons, Ian and Trevor Swearingen; sister, Becky (Swearingen) Rosenberg; and father-in-law, David Kunzman. He was a very entertaining uncle to 3 nieces, 5 nephews, 2 great-nieces, and 2 great-nephews.
Visitation will be 4 pm ~ 8 pm Thursday and after 10 am Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN. His Funeral Service will be 11am Friday in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel with burial to follow in St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions in Todd’s memory may be made to the Autism Society of America. In addition, the family intends to establish a scholarship fund in Todd’s memory.
