Henry Gerald “Jerry” Mattingly, 80, of The Woodlands, Texas, formerly of New Albany, Indiana passed away on December 7, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on August 18, 1943 in Rome, Indiana to the late Henry and Evelyn Pontrich Mattingly.
Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Providence High School in Clarksville, IN and went on to attend Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. He was a baseball and basketball scholarship athlete while earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. Jerry entered the military as a Captain in the United States Army and proudly served our country for four years, including a tour in Vietnam where he earned a Bronze Star Medal. Post military, Jerry had a tenured and successful career as a communications and engineering manager with AT&T (Indiana Bell) and CTC Communications in Concord, NC.
Jerry enjoyed spending time landscaping, planting vegetable gardens, fishing, golfing, family vacations and Indiana Hoosier basketball. “Pop” loved and adored his grandchildren and despite his battle with Parkinson’s, followed and attended as many of their musicals, concerts, recitals, ballgames, graduations, and birthday celebrations as possible. Jerry was a member of Stonebridge Church in The Woodlands, TX. He was man of God that loved to serve others through various church, veterans, and men’s organizations.
Jerry is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Regina “Reggie” Bolduc Mattingly; his three children, Trent Mattingly (Andrea) of The Woodlands, TX, Kellee Braniff (Shawn) of Sellersburg, IN and Amy Schmisseur (Dan) of Brentwood, TN. In addition, he is also survived by seven grandchildren, Katelyn Skilton, Kameryn Zetterstrom, Peyton Mattingly: Ben, Abby, Maddie and Sam Schmisseur, one great grandson, Henry David Skilton and two siblings, Sharon Schultz and John Mattingly.
A service to celebrate his life will be conducted on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship and lunch in the event space at the funeral home. Interment will follow the luncheon at St. Mary's Cemetery at 2500 St. Mary's Dr NE, Lanesville, Indiana 47136.
