Harold E. Lohr, 90, of New Albany, Indiana died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born June 5, 1921 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania to Bruce and Rose Berkey Lohr and graduated from Thadeus Steven’s Trade School as an electrician. Harold served in World War II as an Electrician’s Mate, First Class in the US Navy. His minesweeper cleared the way for the attack on Iwo Jima. Harold retired after 37 years with the Indiana Bell System as an installer with Western Electric. When transferred to the New Albany office, he met and married Fay Anna Patrick on April 2, 1948. Harold and Fay were charter members of Holy Family Parish where he was a long time member and officer of the Men’s Club and Theatre Group. He also spent over 25 years as a volunteer for Floyd County 4H on the Fair and Corporation Boards and was instrumental in the renovation of the main building at the fairgrounds. Harold was a former member and officer of the Widow or Widowers (WOW) Club of the Archdiocese of Louisville. He also enjoyed his trips with the Classic Chevy Club of Louisville where he won many awards. He was also a fan of New Albany School Sports, most notably soccer for his grandson and theater and Bulldolls dance for his granddaughter.
Beside his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Fay Anna Patrick Lohr; mother-in-law, Rose E. Patrick; brother, Merle Lohr; sisters, Leora Geisweidt, Alma Lohr, and Alta Deist.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane P. Lohr-Dohogne; son-in-law, Edward Dohogne; grandchildren, Patrick Dohogne and Clarissa Dohogne, all of New Albany; niece, Sandy Weaver; numerous other nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
