Funeral services for Cody Austin Smith, 23, of New Albany, will be at noon Friday, Jan.. 7, at Kraft Funeral Services, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with burial in Palmyra Cemetery, Palmyra. He died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville. He was a native of Louisville and a 2004 graduate of North Harrison High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Indiana University Southeast and was currently pursuing a further degree in secondary education. He was full of love and a zest for life, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his parents, Richard and Denise Lewis Smith, of Palmyra; fiance, Shannon Williams, of New Albany; grandparents, Harold Smith, of Palmyra, Virginia Hornsby, of Georgetown, and Oliver Lewis, of Louisville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Linda Byers Smith and George Hornsby. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.
