Just four days shy of her 75th birthday, she was born on November 22nd, 1948. As with so many others in her generation in this area, she was born at St. Edward Hospital in New Albany. She grew up in Clarksville and throughout her lifetime shared cherished memories from living on Taggart Avenue. She was a 1966 graduate of Clarksville High School, where she was a Girls State selection and a member of the cheerleading team.
After high school, she attended Indiana University, where she graduated, was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and was chosen to the Student Foundation and Junior Class Council. After graduation, the avowed "political junkie" moved to Washington, D.C. for a year to work in the office of Indiana Representative John Brademas. In addition to her degree from IU, she also completed a second from Ithaca College.
Fitzner was a long-time faculty member at the Sellersburg campus of Ivy Tech. In her free time, she was an active member of her Sunday School and Bible study groups and also enjoyed working with area elementary students as part of the 321 Read program. She also loved to travel the United States and around the world.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Louise Fitzner, father, Elmore Charles Fitzner, husband Gary Leonard Solodkin, brother, Charles "Gino" Fitzner and son, Deron Douglas Sullivan.
Fitzner is survived by sons Brian Sullivan (Meg) and Jeff Sullivan (Jessica), stepdaughter Stacy Solodkin and granddaughters Kiley, Katie, Ella and Moira.
