It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of a great man, Richard Wayne Monkman. Rick fought hard, as he always did, and ended his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in the arms of his loving wife and his children by his side at 2:40 a.m. on May 9th, 2012.
Rick leaves to mourn, his wife of 45 years, Linda, who stayed by his side every moment of his life right through to his last breath. He will be sadly missed by his children Tim, Corinne, Bonnie (Sean) and Tiffany and his grandchildren Brittany, Matthew, Kyle and Kurtis and his other “kids” Dave and Debbie. He also leaves his father, Ronald, and sisters Nalda and Trudy along with many other family members who loved him very much. Rick was predeceased by his mother, Mary.
Rick was an amazing man who was always smiling, telling jokes and making friends everywhere he went. Every person who had the pleasure of knowing him will agree that his laughter was infectious and his words genuine. He spent his life working hard to give his family everything and never complained about doing it. He was determined to make a better life for his family, so he started Monkman Transport with one truck and worked relentlessly to create a successful business.
His “get away from it all” was out at the cottage with his family where he happily puttered, went quad riding, threw horseshoes, shared many laughs and enjoyed the occasional Labatt’s Light.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Hwy 1 East and Navin Road on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 2:00pm.
Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery.
