Nancy Lee Barr

November 7, 1955 to October 12, 2011

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. In the evening hours of October 12, 2011, Nancy, age 55, was tragically taken from us far too soon. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Ryan and Logan (Copen), her “third” son Drew Kowal, her parents Bill and Doris Barr, her sister Jane Pereux (Rene), her brother Dan Barr (Michele) and her nieces and nephews, Raymond Pereux, Lianne Pereux (Daniel & Shyla Billinkoff), Will, Erin and Michael Janssen and her special friend Murray Bryson.

Nancy achieved her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Winnipeg with a major in Geography. She worked as a Naturalist and Interpretive Guide at Spruce Woods Provincial Park and Grand Beach where she designed many of the cross-country ski trails that are in use today. Nancy’s greatest joy was the birth of her two sons and she took great pride that she had the opportunity to stay at home to homeschool them. Nancy was an alternative healer who was certified in Craniosacral Therapy and recently became a Reiki Master. In 1999, Nancy fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams and opened an organic food store and alternative healing practice in Oak Bank, MB.

A true lover of nature, Nancy spent her entire life in the Manitoba countryside and was a regular visitor and employee of Birds Hill Provincial Park. She loved to go cycling in the park or take long walks with her dog Teddy. Nancy had a deep understanding of the earth and its value to humanity and was fully committed to organic and environmental practices. Nancy was an educator for her family and friends and had an abundance of knowledge that she shared with passion and conviction. She was ahead of her time in her thinking and her way of living and taught our family how to respect the earth and ourselves.

Throughout her life Nancy touched everyone she met with her kindness, her acceptance, and her warmth. In her gentle, caring way Nancy connected with everyone she met and left everyone touched in a special way. It was Nancy herself who was special and she will be deeply and sorrowfully missed by all.

“We don’t know what we will do without you. Thank you for being our sister”.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Manitoba Forestry Association (Commemorative Trees), 900 Corydon, Winnipeg, MB, R3M 0Y4. Trees will be planted at Sandilands Forest Discovery Centre in Nancy’s name.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at 2pm at Green Acres Funeral Home.
