Karol was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jolan. He is survived by his sons Charlie and Les; his grandchildren, Kyle, Stephanie, Adam, and Andrew; and his great-granddaughter, Athena. He will also be remembered with love by his brother and extended family, including nieces and nephews in Vancouver.
Born in Hungary, Karol met his wife Jolan before leaving his homeland in 1956. They married in France before moving to Canada, eventually settling in Winnipeg, where they built a family together. Karol worked as a skilled candy maker, a craft he learned during his youth in Hungary. Despite arriving in Canada without knowing English, his exceptional abilities and strong work ethic quickly earned him the respect of his colleagues. Karol became the head candy maker and dedicated his career to the confectionery industry.
Each year he would volunteer his time to help at the Hungarian pavilion during Folklorama. In his leisure time, Karol enjoyed watching wrestling, soccer, and hockey. He was also an avid gardener, often spending time with Jolan planting and tending to their garden. He was also a skilled handyman who took pride in maintaining his home to the highest standards, even in his later years.
Karol will be remembered as a kind, honest, and loving man who touched the lives of all who knew him. He
will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
