It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Eugène Poirier on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the age of 97 years at Taché Centre in St. Boniface.
Joseph was born in Lorette on May 16,1914, one of six children. He is survived by his daughters, Dolores, Lorraine (Ben), Jocelyne, Michele (Wayne), grandson Brian and great-grandchildren Cody and Jade and sister Denise. He also had six godchildren.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife Marie Thaïs, sisters Bertha, Laurette, Edmée and brother Louis.
Dad was a farmer “par excellence” for most of his life. He enjoyed working the land and seeing the fruits of his labour. After retiring from the farm, he continued his passion in vegetable gardening. Dad took great pride and joy in seeding, planting and watching things grow. He even had a small garden in the Taché courtyard last summer.
However, farming and gardening were not his only talents. He was also an adept carpenter which served him well on the farm. On Sundays, he would sometimes babysit his daughters, while mom attended church and would even manage to cook a delicious meal for us all. Dad had wonderful qualities such as persistence and patience, but his deep faith was what carried him, through good times and adversity.
Special thanks to all Taché staff who helped Joseph with countless acts of kindness.
Joseph will be greatly missed by his daughters, family and friends. Funeral will held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Notre Dame de Lorette Catholic Church in Lorette, Manitoba. Interment to follow in Notre Dame de Lorette Catholic Cemetery.
