John Toews

Peacefully, on December 23, 2019 at Pine Falls Hospital, with his family by his side, John passed away after a courageous two year battle with cancer.

John was born on May 1, 1933, in Burwalde, MB and was raised in the outskirts and educated in a small school in the school district of Carruthers. He moved to Winnipeg where he married Ellen Kucharsky on July 26, 1958. After 34 years of marriage Ellen passed away from cancer. John then moved to Belair, MB where he married Bonny Recksiedler. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Oct. 1, 2019.

John will be sadly and deeply missed by his loving wife Bonny, daughter Jannet (Rudy), son Glen (Heather), step-daughter Tammy (Kelly), step-son Kurt, step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, two brothers, Gerald (Mary), and Albert (Hilda), plus numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

John was predeceased by his first wife Ellen, mother Susanne, step-mother Anna, father John, brother Peter, sister Kay, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

John was a loving father, brother, uncle, step-grandfather, step-great grandfather, and friend. He was very work orientated. John worked for Maple Leaf Contruction and Central Canadian Structures. He then started his own steel erecting company, “JT Construction” , which was involved in erecting huge pre-engineered steel buildings like grain feed mills, across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. Closing his business, he started a new home carpentry business on his own working in Winnipeg and the Grand Beach area, well into his late seventies.

John loved the peace and quiet of their residence in Belair, MB. His memory will be forever cherished in all our hearts.

Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Green Acres Funeral Home, Transcanada Hwy #1 East at Navin Road. Interment and Luncheon to follow.
