It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Jennie Scott (nee Ferance) on December 17, 2022 at the age of 85. Jennie passed peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg.
She was predeceased by her parents Sam and Annie Ferance, and siblings Mary, Rose, Pat, Ray, Theo, and Eunice. She is survived by her Husband of 53 years Wayne, children Jamie (Cheri) and Sherry (Clint), granddaughters Emma and Melissa, as well as many Nieces and Nephews.
Jennie was born and raised on a farm in Sifton, Manitoba. She was the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who instilled in her a strong work ethic that she continued to demonstrate even in her last days. She was very proud of her family and from where she came. She always respected how hard they worked and how creative they were with the resources that they had. She often told stories of fond memories growing up in Sifton.
Jennie left home at the young age of 17 to complete Grade 12 at St. Mary’s Academy in Winnipeg. She then put herself through Teachers College, which she also had very fond memories of. She taught briefly in Starbuck but she spent the majority of her teaching career at Tuxedo School where she enjoyed working with children (especially grade 2). During this period in her life, Jennie traveled to California, Hawaii, and Europe and spend time with her friends and family.
In 1969, she married her husband Wayne, and had her children in the 1970s. She was very active in the community and volunteered for many different organizations: Diabetes, Heart and Stroke, Block Parents, Neighborhood Watch, as well as being actively involved in all schools that her children attended. She became a grandmother in 2003, bringing her so much laughter and joy, of which she spoke fondly of days before her passing. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and always put the needs of her family above her own.
Jennie was a true lady who always had manners, kindness, and a great sense of humor. However when she felt it was required she was fierce and a true force of nature especially when it involved her family. She was meticulous, well organized, and took pleasure in many things such as reading, gardening, and keeping up on current events. She had an incredibly inquisitive mind even into her last days and was always curious to learn and understand. She was competitive and determined, especially when playing games such as scrabble – Jennie would find a way to use all of her letters, even the letter X.
She was a devout Catholic and never missed a Sunday Service unless she was extremely ill. We are comforted knowing that she is now free of pain with the Lord, her parents, and siblings in heaven.
For their care and compassion we want to thank Dr. Kyermating and her staff, as well as the staff on the 4th Floor and Urgent Care at Victoria General Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jennie’s memory can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at St. Vital Parish, 1629 Pembina Hwy. Interment and Reception to follow at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery.
We all love you and will miss you dearly. You will be forever in our hearts and minds until we meet again
