(June 28, 1950 to June 6, 2010)
Early on Sunday morning, Gloria Kliewer (nee Shaw) went to be with her Lord and Saviour after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband Doug, daughter Allison and son-in-law Aaron Sinclair; brothers Wilfred (Loretta) in Calgary, Wayne (Marilyn) in Edmonton and Les (Linda) in Kelowna.
She is also survived by her father-in-law Bert Kliewer and step-mom Marian, sister-in-law Sherrie and husband Larry, brother-in-law Kevin Kliewer..
Preceding her in this final journey were her father, Leo Shaw; sister-in-law Rita Shaw; mother-in-law, Betty Kliewer; and mother, Elsie Shaw.
Doug and Gloria met while they were both working at Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg as Gloria was participating in the Intensive Care Unit program. She captivated Doug’s heart, and said yes to a long and happy marriage that started October 2, 1976.
Gloria devoted her entire adult career to the field of nursing. Gloria’s love of neonatal nursing was displayed in the care she gave to her little ones; the patience, sympathy and involvement with the parents; and the open personal and professional relationships held with her fellow nurses and medical staff.
In her spare time, Gloria loved to sew, knit, or even quilt. Her creative side eventually led her to involvement in card making allowing her precious time spent with great friends. Gloria used the last 9 months to finish projects that will last forever. She used her time to make precious gifts that will allow her loved ones to forever remember her. One of the biggest projects that she completed was a memory basket she filled with colourful blankets and old toys for her future grandchild. Gloria was also able to capture many beautiful memories in a scrapbook that was truly a labour of love.
Gloria’s family would like to thank Dr. David Szawczer, Jennifer Fisher-Cote and the multitude of nurses in the treatment room at Cancer Care Manitoba, who professionally and lovingly cared for Gloria over these past 14 months.
A memorial service took place on Saturday, June 12, 2010, Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue. Viewing at 11:30 am will precede the 12 o’clock service. A luncheon was held following the service, with internment later that day at Green Acres Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, Grant memorial Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
