(1918 – 2015)
Gladys passed away peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge on January 6, 2015 at the age of 96.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Austin, her daughter Eleanor Ganas and granddaughter Leslie. She is survived by daughters Doreen Shafransky and Joan Knight (Bob), son Gary (Angie), sister Pat Hampshire, son in law Leon Ganas, her grandchildren – Greg, Catherine, Tamara, Danny, Christopher, Allan, Matt and Jamie and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gladys was born in 1918 at Norway House, Manitoba. She married Austin in 1936 and they lived in Island Lake, Manitoba until the family moved to Winnipeg in 1951. She worked for Bonar & Bemis Ltd. for many years as a seamstress until she retired in 1983. In her retirement, she continued to practice her craft and spent many happy hours quilting and dressmaking for her family. Gladys liked to travel and enjoyed holidays in Hawaii, Nashville and cruised the Caribbean. She enjoyed baseball, as she played the game in her youth. She was an enthusiastic Blue Jays fan. Gladys loved spending time with her family and loved to entertain, always making sure that there was plenty to eat and drink and lots of treats around for the grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for the wonderful care she received. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road.
