Else Dueck, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 12, 2025 at the age of 89 years old, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was born on October 16, 1935 in the Ukraine, and her life was a testament to strength, resilience, and love.
Else's early years were marked by hardship and adversity, growing up in the midst of war. Despite the challenges she faced, she carried herself with grace and determination, shaping her into the compassionate and caring woman she became. In March 1955, she met the love of her life, Henry, in Paraguay, and they were married shortly thereafter. Their love story was one of unwavering devotion and partnership, and together they built a beautiful life.
The couple welcomed their first son, Henry, in 1956, and then moved to Winnipeg, where their second son, Willy, was born in 1957. Their family was further blessed with the arrival of their son Tommy in the early 1970s. Else poured her heart and soul into her role as a mother, nurturing and guiding her children with unwavering love and support.
Else's love extended beyond her immediate family, and she found joy in serving her community and church. She had a passion for baking, cooking, and cleaning, and she shared her talents generously with others. Her warm and welcoming spirit made her a cherished presence in the lives of those around her. She also dedicated herself to serving in the church, where she found fulfillment in helping with meals and supporting her community.
Else's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She was predeceased by her sons, Tommy and Henry (Sandy), as well as her sister, Johanna (John Alan). She is survived by her loving husband, Henry, her son Willy (Trudy), her grandchildren Jonathan (Heather), Ryan (Jennifer), Jason (Carissa), Sara (BJ), Michael (Laura), and her great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Rudy and Alfred, her sisters Susanne, Helene, and Franz, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
The impact of Else's life will be celebrated and remembered at a viewing on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church (145 Henderson Highway). The viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. This will be a time for all who loved Else to come together, share their memories, and find comfort in each other's presence.
Else's legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her memory will be cherished and her spirit will be carried forward by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She leaves behind a profound and enduring legacy of love, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love and light that she brought into the world.
