On Saturday, April 30th at Riverview Health Center with her husband by her side and after a long hard fought battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Debbie McDonald.
She is survived by her husband Gord, father Stan (Harlene), sisters Karen, Sherry, brother Michael and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Joan Valentine.
Debbie was born November 1, 1961 in Winnipeg and grew up in Transcona where she attended Murdoch Mackay High School.
Debbie’s working career began early as a young teenager at McDonalds Restaurants (how ironic) and later continued down a very diverse path, from driving a semi-truck & trailer, to working in the meat packing industry, then jumping to politics, where she worked for a federal member of parliament, then went to work for a Provincial MLA. Her most rewarding job however was her most recent, where she worked in the office at the Movement Center of Manitoba. She developed a special bond with all of the kids and staff there, and also with her boss and “friend” Margy Nelson, who Debbie claimed was the best boss in the world.
We wish to thank Dr. Kumar and staff at Cancer Care Manitoba and also the staff at Riverview.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba on Friday, May 6th, 2016 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers should friends desire, a donation can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba (brain tumor research).
As a fitting tribute, we close with the first verse of a song called “Thank You”.
If the sun refused to shine
I would still be loving you
When mountains crumble to the sea
There would still be “You and Me”
