It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, Brian on November 4, 2021 at the age of 82.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Irene, mother and father Ruth and Roy Bacon, sisters Beatrice Wakeman and Jane Bacon.
Brian is survived by his children, Colleen (Don), Laurie (Randy), Shannon (Mark); grandchildren, Tamara (Richard), Jeff (Lynnsay), Courtney (Brandon), Amanda (Luke), Jesse (Alyssa), Emma (Joe); great grandchildren, Jacob, Bailey, Scarlett and Colton; brother John Bacon and wife Linda Bacon.
Brian was born on December 26, 1938 in Winnipeg. He grew up in St. Vital and attended Windsor School and Glenlawn Collegiate. He worked at the CNR where he met his wife Irene. He joined the City of St. Boniface Fire Department at the age of 21. Brian married Irene in 1962 and together they raised their three daughters. Many summers were spent at their cottage in Grand Marais where the door was always open to family and friends. Brian was the life of the party and loved telling a joke or two.
Brian was a great cook, an avid reader, played various instruments and had a true passion for music. Brian was also an amazing artist, many family and friends enjoyed receiving hand drawn Christmas cards each year. His talent was also noted when his drawing was chosen by The Royal Canadian Mint to be one of the twenty-five cent coins that celebrated the millennium.
Brian was a wonderful Grandpa and loved to spoil his grandkids with chocolate bars and treats. Even though he was sometimes known as “Grumpy” Grandpa, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Brian was very proud to be a firefighter and served The Winnipeg Fire Department for 34 years. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1986 and then to Captain in 1990. He was a drummer in the firefighters marching band where they participated in many parades around Manitoba. Dad was courageous and brave and a hero to many.
As Dad always said “We don't have a lot of riches and sometimes the going’s tough, but while we have family to love us, we think we’re rich enough”.
Love you Dad
