It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Art Kopp, age 80, on July 20 at Meadowood Manor.
Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife Adeline (nee Hintz), children Shannon and Bradley (Joelle), grandchildren Alex, Katie, Sarah, Ben and Sam, as well as his sister Lucy Sedo, brother Garry Kopp (Pat), along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their families. He will be sadly missed by best friends Bob and Shirley Wasyluk.
Art was predeceased by his parents Fred and Martha Kopp, siblings Arnold Kopp and Jennie Leiman, and brothers-in-law George Leiman and Arnold Sedo.
Art was born in Lydiatt and grew up in the Hazelridge area. He had an interest in all things mechanical, figuring out how stuff worked and how to fix it. This led to a lifetime of tinkering and repairing anything that had broken. His keen mind for math led to a career spanning 30 years with Weights and Measures for the federal government. He met the love of his life, Adeline, in 1964 and were wed in 1967. Other than a brief move to Edmonton for work, Art lived his entire adult life in Winnipeg. Summers were spent at Hillside Beach Trailer Park and many winters were spent in Puerto Vallarta. In his late 60’s Art developed Parkinson’s disease. Life slowed down and eventually he was placed in full time care. Dad was content and enjoyed every visit made by family and friends. As his health declined, dad continued to embody a sense of grace and dignity. He was loved by all the staff, and we are so grateful for the excellent care, love and compassion that was shown to him while he was at Meadowood Manor.
A memorial service to celebrate Art’s life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, Wednesday July 27th at 1:00 pm, with interment to follow at Green Acres Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to Parkinson Canada.
