She was born in San Diego, California on October 23, 1929, where she spent most of her childhood, growing up with her two brothers and five sisters. In 1954 Rita married the love of her life, Edward “Eddie” Castro. They remained together until Eddie passed away on December 5, 2013. Together they would raise five children.
Rita worked in the garment manufacturing industry for 32 years, preparing fine men’s suits for retail.
Rita was a devoted mother who selflessly dedicated her life to providing for her family. Through good times and bad, Rita consistently and gracefully displayed compassion, courage and strength which made her the “rock” that her family anchored to. She loved to shop, eat out with friends and family and plan and attend family functions and celebrations. Rita’s first and foremost joy was being a mother. She spent her adult life protecting, teaching and providing for her five children and eventually two of her grandchildren. The life-lessons, qualities and gifts she gave us all will live on long after her passing. Although she will be missed more than words can say, we rest assured knowing that she is with God in Heaven. She is now reunited with her love Eddie and together they will continue to look after us.
Rita is survived by daughters Theresa Castillo and Vivian Sanchez, sons Anthony, Daniel and Benjamin Castro and 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Dora Ortiz and Esther Nuno.
