Matthew Wayne Gentry

Matthew Wayne Gentry, age 48, of Chula Vista, California passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 after a long battle with cancer, at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born October 17, 1974 in San Diego, California, the son of Nancy Gentry and the late James Gentry. He was the youngest of 3 siblings.

Matt graduated from Point Loma High School in 1992. He worked at Sea World for ten years as the site locksmith and park security. Matt moved to Murrieta, California in 2006 and spent time working at Pechanga Casino as a gaming attendant. He returned to Chula Vista, California in 2021 to live with his mother, sister and grandmother.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy Gentry of Chula Vista, California; sister, Shannon Medina of Chula Vista, California; brother, Charley Grass of Murrieta, California; sister in law Sandra Grassi of Murrieta, California; niece Monica Medina of Murrieta, California; nephew Jarret Grassi of Murrieta, California; niece Haley Grassi of Silverdale, Washington; nephews Brady and Logan Grassi of Murrieta, California; uncle Richard Bobby of El Cajon, California; cousin, Tina Bobby of Oceanside, California; and grandmother, Maxie Loyns of Chula Vista, California.

A visitation for Matthew will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Funeraria del Angel National City, 607 National City Boulevard, National City, CA 91950. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. Immediately following the graveside service a reception will occur from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel, 607 National City Boulevard, National City, CA 91950.
