Maria valued her close relationships with her family and friends. Among the activities she enjoyed were her volunteer work in the schools her children attended and in her church, both St. Anthony’s in National City, and St. Michael’s in San Diego, Paradise Hills. She was active in PTA, Girl Scout Brownies, Little League, Girls Softball, etc. with her children.
She loved reading, sewing, gardening, embroidery work for her home. She spent many years as a volunteer for the San Diego Commodity program. In her last years she enjoyed her time with her caregivers watching the wildlife in the yard of her daughters home, coloring especially with her great grandchildren, watching them play, dance, and sing. She also loved watching her TV programs “Heartland”, and “Annie with an E”.
She encouraged reading and math to her children and grandchildren and stressed the importance of an education. She requested them to do the “very best you are capable of” in their classes and jobs they held.
She believed that we do best in life by doing for others, and that everyone deserves courtesy and respect. She enriched the lives of everyone that knew her and was a constant source of support to many, especially her family.
She loved her children equally, never loved any of them more than the other. The same applied to her grandchildren, even though her granddaughters would say that she loved one over the other.
She is survived by her son Ron, and daughters Rosie and Loretta, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
