Her father, Vicente, was stationed in the U.S. Navy in San Diego. For a short time, they lived in Great Lakes, Illinois, when her father was stationed there. They returned to San Diego, where she spent the rest of her life. She has one sister (Vivian- deceased in 2021) and four brothers (Vincent, Steven, Eddie, and Jimmy). She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1969.
She married Carlos (Carl) Taitano Cruz on April 17, 1971. She gave birth to her daughter Carla in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1972, when she lived there with her husband. He was serving in the U.S. Navy and was stationed there. They returned to San Diego, where her husband completed his service and retired from the U.S. Navy. She gave birth to her son Michael in San Diego in 1976.
Lourdes was a regular parishioner at St. Mary's Church in National City from her childhood until she and her family purchased a home in Spring Valley in 1990. After she and her family moved, she became a parishioner at St. John of the Cross Church in Lemon Grove, where she regularly attended church until her recent passing.
Lourdes retired from civil service, where she was a Clerk Typist for the U.S. Department of H.U.D. (Housing and Urban Development).
She is survived by her husband Carlos (Carl), children Carla and Michael, and grandson Christian (born in 2001). She lived a long and happy life surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She enjoyed going to the casinos and playing bingo with her mother and sister at Sycuan and the other casinos. She loved authentic Guamanian/Chamorro and Mexican food and was a great cook. She enjoyed spicy food and going out to eat with her family. She was always good at keeping track of and remembering all of her relative's and friends' birthdays and anniversaries. She always made time to wish them the best and send her love to celebrate them on these special occasions. The family was the most important thing to her; she instilled this in her children and shared it with all those around her.
