Julia’s story begins on February 25, 1946 in the hustle and bustle city of Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico with Tedodulo Jauregui, her father a musician and Andrea Galvan her mother a seamstress. She had 2 siblings Alicia Bolanos and Jose Jauregui.
As teenager, Julia met Fernando at a party and a year later they married. Fernando was 21 years old and Julia was 16 years old. After marrying Fernando, they chose to move to Tijuana with Fernando’s family. They traveled on a bus with her new family as they brought along pots of food, the little possession they had, and a dream to eventually cross over to the United States.
In Tijuana, Julia and Fernando started a family business with her in-laws. The Cenaduria, that’s where she made food Guadalajara style. Julia and Fernando decided to start applying for their passport in the 1960’s to come over to the United States.
Los Angeles was the first stop in the land of opportunities. Julia worked alongside her mother Andrea for a prominent family in Los Angeles. In 1971, Julia found out that she was pregnant with her first child Claudia. She was over the moon because her and Fernando were going to have a little piece of them. Years passed and Julia and Fernando had their second daughter Cynthia in 1974. Cynthia was known as “La Penny” according to Julia, because her face was so little and fragile.
In the late 1970’s, they decided to pack up all of their stuff and move to San Diego.
In San Diego, Julia had back to back pregnancies in 1978 and 1979 with Fernando Jr and Georgina, her “twins.” In 1986, Julia had her last daughter: Julie, her forever baby.
As a member, of Christ the King Catholic church she instilled the importance of faith and giving back to the community. She valued her family and pushing her children to achieve their protentional. Julia always lent a helping hand to others and had a strong sense of justice. She was a member of her union and volunteered for more than 30 years for the county of San Diego Voting polls.
Julia was about giving her children experiences and building core memories. Whether it was going camping in Cuyamaca or going down south to Ensenada, spending summer vacations in hotels or going to amusement parks.
Julia also spent more than 30 years working at 32nd naval base with Navy personnel. She was also known as Mama to many sailors and adopted many for holidays.
During the early 2000’s her beloved husband Fernando became sick with different aliments. Julia stayed positive and remained hopeful that one day her and Fernando will return back to their hometown in Mexico. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his illness in 2019.
Her legacy will live on with her children and grandchildren:
Claudia Flores-Rosario, Nyssa Rosario, Benjamin Rosario, Cynthia Flores Webster, Caleb Flores, Carter Moore-Sims, Fernando Flores, Sofia Flores, Georgina Flores, Julie Flores.
