away on April 7, 2023, from failing health. Flora was born to
Maximo Galvez and Honorata Gutierrez Galvez on March 14,
1921, in San Carlos Pangasinan, in the Philippines. After
graduating from the Philippine Normal School (now University)
with a degree in Education, she devoted herself in teaching
young minds for 40 years till her retirement in the 1980’s. She
was married to Jose (Joe) Samonte in October 1955 and from
the union birthed three children namely: Socorro (Sockie), Noel
and Flor (Baby).
Flora will be remembered as one who is easy to get along with,
humble, honest, generous, industrious (a veritable “just do it”
gal you wouldn’t catch in any analysis-paralysis situation as
she was always doing something), determined and with a very good sense of humor. She was a
good daughter, sister, wife, in-law, mother, aunt and grandmother. She cooked, she sewed her
children’s clothes, made her children go through good schools in spite of a meager income. On
top of that, she took care of whoever needed to stay in their house at various times - and there
were many - with no complaints.
Flora is survived by two of her three children Sockie Lampa and Noel (married to Rosalyn)
Samonte, grandchildren Stephen and Joey Lampa, Ardi Samonte, Bianca Calvo and Ana
(married to Kris Copero) Calvo and siblings Hugo Galvez and Rita (married to Art) Garcia.
Please join us in celebrating her life at the All Souls Cemetery (550 Glen Cove Rd., Vallejo CA
