Claudia Miriam (Sucilla) Williams was a rare living saint on earth and adored by everyone who knew her. She was born on July 22, 1973, in San Diego, CA, to Maria De Jesus Gonzalez and Salvador Sucilla. She attended St. Jude Academy, later attended Marian High School, and graduated.
She worked as a Registrar Assistant at San Diego City College for 4 years, where she met the love of her life, Lamar Williams - whom she affectionately called Mr. Williams. They married on Dec. 8th, 1998, at St. Jude’s Church. Claudia was a devoted wife to her husband for 24 years. When the two met, Claudia was a single mom of 3, but immediately and with his whole heart, Mr. Williams stepped in to raise and love them as his own. Together they raised 7 beautiful children.
On the morning of December 31st (New Year’s Eve 2022), Claudia Williams, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and friend, passed away very suddenly, at the young age of 49. It was a painful shock to so many but to none more than her loving family and mother. She leaves to mourn her husband, Lamar; children, Paul, Abigail, Salvador, Sebastian, Julian, Rielle (Riri), Elize (Coco); her mother, Maria de Jesus Gonzalez; sister-in-law, Jonisha Williams; nieces Jordan and Maya; brother-in-law, Curtis Williams; nephew, Tyler; many cousins/relatives; brothers & sisters from the parish and community, and a host of friends near & far.
Claudia did everything for her family. Her days began at 4:30am getting everyone ready and out the door for work and school. She was also caretaker to her mother who lived with her. Claudia was always “put together from head to toe” no matter where she went.
Her calm, peaceful demeanor, warm eyes, and welcoming smile are forever engraved in the lives of all she met. She gave the best comforting hugs and always made sure everyone around her knew they were loved. She shared a special bond/friendship with her “cousin/best friend”, Roni Moore. They grew up and attended school together, laughed, cried, and shared memorable adventures throughout the years. They even chose each other to be Godparents to their children. They indeed had a unique, unbreakable bond.
She was a beautiful woman that radiated Christ for the world. Sweet Claudia had such a gift of understanding and obedience to what the Holy Spirit was calling her to do, that despite her many responsibilities at home, she was heavily involved in several different Catholic ministries.
Claudia attended daily mass at least twice a week and regularly received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. She was heavily involved at her parish, St. John of the Cross in Lemon Grove, CA, and over the course of 17 years worked in the office as a secretary, volunteered as a Catechist for Confirmation, led an active Connection to Christ group, bringing church to homes in small group settings, served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and weekly cleaned and pressed the Communion purificator cloths used at mass.
She was a small group facilitator for a women’s bible study group, Walking with Purpose, at St. Therese. She and her husband recently became involved with Catholic Engaged Encounter as retreat presenters for sacramental marriage preparation. Her most recent “Holy Spirit Inspiration” as she called them, was a women’s ministry, Women at the Well, for which she was planning a retreat for the end of January 2023.
Claudia’s life was richly blessed by her big, beautiful family, friends, and all of her ministry work. She often shared that anything she prayed for, she received in abundance.
We pray that Claudia’s inspiring life story has left an impression on your heart, and you to find fortitude to listen to the Holy Spirit as she did.
The Williams family would like to sincerely and lovingly thank you all for the many calls, prayers, donations, food, floral pieces, and other acts of kindness extended during this time of bereavement.
