Born on April 2, 1952, in Mississippi, he exemplified the virtues of humility, gratitude, and respect for all of creation. Willie was a devoted father and grandfather, whose love knew no bounds. His compassionate spirit led him to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate, as he selflessly cooked meals for the homeless and offered his unwavering support.
In addition to his acts of kindness, Willie possessed a deep appreciation for the beauty in life. He cherished the elegance of old cars and the intricacy of jewelry, particularly his beloved watches. With an impeccable sense of style, Willie was a testament to the notion that one's outward appearance can reflect the inner beauty of the soul.
Willie's legacy of love and compassion lives on in the hearts of his surviving daughter, Shalanda L. Thompson (Edward), and his cherished granddaughter, Jazmin K. McDowell. He is also mourned by his dear sister, Bessie Buchanan (Jessie), along with a multitude of nieces and nephews. Furthermore, Willie leaves behind his beloved girlfriend, Kelli Moses. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Velma Barnes, his esteemed father, Douglas Jones, his dear sister, Diane Barnes, and his beloved brothers, Randy Barnes and Billy Lee Barnes.
In honor of his profound dedication, it is worth noting that Willie served his country with valor in the Army for 3 years as a Radio Operator. His commitment and sacrifice in the military exemplify his unwavering devotion to a higher cause.
During moments of respite, Willie found solace in collecting watches, each ticking testament to the fleeting nature of time, and he delighted in spending time at the pier, meticulously polishing his cherished cars. These simple yet profound hobbies served as a reminder to embrace the beauty and significance of every passing moment.

A Military Honor Service will be held at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, located at 7931 McCrory Ln, Nashville, TN 37221.
