William Albert Goodman, Jr. passed away on the evening of September 9, 2019 at the age of 74. He was the son of Bill and Ann Goodman. Disabled by an illness at the age of 7, Billy, as he was known by family and friends, lived a full and active life. Always quick with a joke and a smile, he was a delight to be with. He loved traveling, learning history, socializing, making fun and having fun. Winner of many Special Olympic awards for wheelchair racing, he was always physically strong. Billy served as President of the Nashville chapter of People First, an organization dedicated to the self-advocacy for the disabled. In 1971 he was one of the first two residents of Progress Inc., an organization which promotes health, happiness and safety for people with disabilities and senior adults needing care. Knowledgeable in Bible scripture, Billy devoutly attended Woodmont Baptist Church for 70 years, serving as a greeter for the past several years, a personal honor he immensely enjoyed.
Billy is survived by his brother, Dave Goodman and his wife Sophie, niece Christina Goodman, and grandchildren Jakob and James, niece Sabrina Sasser-Strom and her husband Eric, and two grandchildren Adelide and Ester Pearl, nephew Alex Goodman and his wife Alli, sister-in-laws, Mary Gay White and Dahli Perez-Whyte, as well as many loving cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life service officiated by Dr. Bill Sherman will be held at Woodmont Baptist Church on Saturday morning October 5th, with visitation 10-11, service starting at 11, followed by a reception at the church in Fellowship Hall.
