Bill was born April 25, 1962, the son of Jane Phillips Coombs and Hudson Wyatt Coombs.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Scottie Fillebrown Coombs, and their children, daughter, Lauren Quinn Barnacastle and son-in-law, Jon, son, Hudson Phillips Coombs, and daughter, Marguerite Fillebrown Coombs. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Lavinia Fillebrown; sisters-in-law, Peggy McMurray, Bea Isenhour, Ellen Vaughn and brother-in-law Tim Vaughn; cousins Martha Coombs Balkin (Peter), Ann Terrell Fussell (Jim), James Andrew Terrell (Pam), John Carnduff Coombs (Loretta) and many second cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill graduated from David Lipscomb High School and Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Sociology. As a fixture in the Nashville banking community for 36 years, he served several institutions including NationsBank, Union Planters, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo.
In his youth, Bill was an active member of Belmont United Methodist Church and later was a confirmed member of St. George’s Episcopal Church. Bill was an avid sports fan, especially for Vanderbilt, that is until son Hudson headed to Mississippi State University (Hail State!). Additionally, Bill loved music, often creating unique playlists for friends, and he loved hosting informal gatherings, traveling, and particularly trips to the beach. Bill was above all a devoted husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He never met a stranger.
Visitation with the family will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church on Friday, July 16 from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Margery Kennelly officiating. Honorary Pallbearers: Lynn Borum, John Burroughs, Jack Coombs, Chris Cunningham, Scott Moore, John Ridenour, Mark Smith, Bill Solt, Joe Swaim, Jim Terrell, and Woody Turner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Harpeth Hall School, 3801 Hobbs Road, Nashville, TN 37215.
