Walter Christian Messemer, “Pop”, 74, passed away on Saturday March 24, 2018 in Hermitage, Tennessee. He was born September 4, 1943 to Donald and Marie Messemer in Brooklyn, New York. On April 22, 1979 he married Linda Anne Bernadette Reilly in Ridgewood, NY and they relocated to Nashville in 1980.
After high school, Walter attended Long Island University graduating with a degree in Finance. He spent the majority of his career in corporate trust, working for Manufacturers Hanover, First American Bank, First Tennessee Bank, Nations Bank, and Reliance Trust. He finished his career with Metro Government of Nashville & Davison County, serving in the investment, human resources, and water and sewer departments.
Walter served as a Boy Scout Troop leader and softball coach. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, attending his local church (Emmanuel Lutheran), and spending time with his grandkids.
Walter is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Linda; his three children, Christian (Matia) Messemer of Fort Worth, TX, Kelly Anne (Derek) Broadwater of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Lindsey Penn of Antioch, TN; four grandchildren, Mackenzie, Lilly, Anna, and Ambrose; the family “outlaws” Maureen (Bruce) Wallace, Patrick James (Joyce) Reilly; nieces and nephews, Brian Messemer, Patrick James (Heather) Reilly II, Robin Hendrix, Leigh Anne Doss, Allison (Daniel) Farrington; other treasured family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marie Messemer, father and mother-in-law, Ambrose and Lillian Reilly.
A wake will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from four o’clock until eight o’clock, with family starting at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 29, 2018, at two thirty in the afternoon. with visitation beginning at one thirty in the afternoon.
