Tommy proudly served in the US Army in Vietnam, and later in life, Tommy served in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. He worked as a civilian at Arnold Air Force Base / AEDC and at Kings Bay Naval Base. He was an exceptional athlete, excelling at any sport he played, and he had a particular passion for baseball. He graduated from Motlow Community College in 1981.

After Faye fell ill in 2017, Tommy was a dedicated caregiver and advocate for her until her passing in 2019.
Tommy loved traveling, cooking (almost as much as he loved to eat), watching and caring for animals, especially his beloved dachshund named Dude, detailing his cars and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends, laughing, and dancing.
He is survived by his children Mitsy (Phillip) McAnally Clendenin and Lindsey Rae McAnally; his grandchildren, Tom, Lucy, and Anderson Clendenin; and his sisters, Sandra McAnally German and Paulette McAnally LovVorn.
