He was born to Timothy M. and Richie L. Smith in Dekalb County, TN and was preceded in death by his parents along with siblings, Hubert, Haskell, Rufus, Fred, W.J., Charlie and Brownie, and daughter, Tommie.
At age 19, Noah moved to Nashville and worked at Model Laundry, where he was first introduced to his wife-to-be, Mildred.
A veteran of WWII, he toured England, Belgium, France, Austria and Germany. He served as a tank gunner and also as Sergeant First Class over the motor pool. He also served stateside during the Korean conflict.
Noah and Mildred married in 1951 and then owned and operated Smitty’s Appliance Service for 25 years.
After retiring at age 63, Noah enjoyed playing with his dogs, many summers of gardening, was an avid reader of westerns and war stories. Noah stayed active outdoors, still riding his mower until age 96.
The Tennessean recognized his many years of dedication and care for his neighborhood’s stray animals. He was greeted in heaven by his four-legged companions.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mildred, who cared for him until the day before his death when he was admitted to respite care. He credited her tender loving care for his longevity. He is also survived by daughters, Pat Kelley (Gene), Kathy Cowherd (Frank), Christa Salmhofer (Franz); devoted grandson, Daniel Baron; step-daughter, Shirley Englett (John); step-grandsons, Tyler Englett (Debbie) and Gary Vick (Cindy).
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held at two o’ clock in the afternoon until six on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
A second visitation will be held at ten o’ clock in the morning until eleven-thirty with service to follow at eleven-thirty on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
