Sue Ellen Harkrader Johnson died peacefully on her birthday, Monday, January 1, 2024 at Centennial Hospital. Mrs. Johnson, a Bristol, Virginia native, was the daughter of Helen Teresa Eakin and Hal Haynes Harkrader, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Hal Haynes Harkrader, Jr (Doris); Joseph Fletcher Harkrader (Geneva) and a niece Karen Harkrader Poore.
She was a proud Virginian by birth with family roots dating back to the Colonial era through both parents.
Mrs. Johnson attended Florida State University prior to marrying and rearing her children. After her children were grown, she resumed her education, earning a BS from Middle Tennessee State University.
She is survived by her sons, Benjamin Johnson, lll of Sebring, Florida; David Hal Johnson of Hillsborough, North Carolina; daughter, Anne Schultz and her husband George of Nashville; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and a nephew.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the entire staff of Mary, Queen of Angels Assisted Living, where she resided for over thirteen years and to the kind nurses and staff of the twelfth floor tower at Tri Star Centennial Hospital who watched over her every need in her final days, as well as her team of doctors and nurses from the Frist Clinic at Centennial Medical Group.
A private family graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, family requests that contributions be made to Mary, Queen of Angels, 34 White Bridge Road, Nashville TN 37205 to benefit chapel improvements.
