Sara Lee (Sally) Middleton Moench died March 22, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Sarah Edwards Middleton. She was born in Nashville and graduated from Ward Belmont High School. She received a B.A. degree with honors from Randolph-Macon College in Lynchburg, VA where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. Sally is survived by her husband William Lynn Moench of 64 years. She was the mother of sons William Lynn Moench Jr. (Pamela), St. Louis MO; Robert Waide Moench, Black Mountain NC; David Edwards Moench (Laura), Stockholm, Sweden and daughter Sara Lee Gant (deceased) of Kansas City MO. She was the grandmother to six grandchildren: Andrew Middleton Moench, Chicago; Molly Elizabeth Moench Bernhard (Nicolas), France; Amanda Lee Moench Bray (Ross), Indianapolis; Meredith Anne Moench, Kosovo; Mallory Sue Moench, India; and Jason Lee Gant (deceased) of Kansas City, MO and great-grandmother to Nadia Lee Bray. Active in the community, Sally served on the Boards of Crittendon Services, The Horticultural Society of Middle Tennessee, Belmont University Aid, Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Centennial Club, Friends of Cheekwood and the Nashville Beautification and Environment Commission. Other organizations of which she was a member include Singing Hills Garden Club and Gen. Wm. Lee Davidson DAR. With her husband Lynn, Sally loved and supported Vanderbilt Athletics and hosted International students through the Nashville Rotary Club. A life-long Baptist, she served as a Bible Study leader, a Sunday school teacher and president of Baptist Women. She taught conversational English to international students through the Nashville Rotary Club and her church. Although she lived most of her life in Nashville, it was the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina that held her heart. Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from ten o'clock in the morning until twelve noon. At her request, a private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Nashville Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, or charity of choice.
