ATKINSON, Ruth Pullen December 19, 1909 - July 18, 2012. An amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Ruth Pullen Atkinson age 102, joined her Lord and departed loved ones on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Born on December 19, 1909 in Hollow Rock, TN to John and Estelle (Ware) Pullen. Ruth passed away peacefully at Goldwater Assisted living in Glendale, AZ. She is preceded in death by her husband Fitzgerald Atkinson Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Atkinson; son-in-law, Ronald Prychodnik, granddaughters, Wendy Stoeckel and Tara Prychodnik; grandson-in-law, Ian Stoeckel; great-grandsons, Adam Stoeckel and Aidric Iten. She is also survived by her nephews, Ed Parrotte, William Martin, James "Jeb" Atkinson and Thomas Atkinson, and sister-in-law, Annette "Sandi" Atkinson, along with a multitude of great nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Ruth was a strong Christian woman, lovingly devoted to her famiy and friends. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, was a member of the Hemingway Garden Club, and donated her time to many charities including Meals on Wheels. She was a faithful member of Belmont United Methodist Church and Forest Hills United Methodist Church. She participated in many political activities with her husband, "Jerry" Atkinson; and enjoyed many travels around the world. Guests were always welcomed in her home with open arms and her delicious homemade cornbread. A life well lived, full of faith, family and friends, forever etched in your hearts, she will be missed by many. A special thanks is extended to the caregivers at Hospice of the Southwest and Goldwater Assisted Living for their tender loving care of this precious lady. Graveside service to be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 600 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204 on Tuesday July 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Graceland area of the park.
