Ruby May Clark Shaffer, age 94, Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born to the late Scott and Lena Clark in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky, on May 16, 1929.
Ruby was a 1947 Graduate of Augusta Tilghman High School, in Paducah, Kentucky. She married Randall Wood Shaffer in Paducah, Kentucky, at Broadway Church of Christ, on March 3, 1951. Ruby was a secretary for Southern Textile Machinery Company, MedCo of Paducah, and Higdon Foods, all in Paducah, and the American Red Cross in Fort Knox, Kentucky, during the Korean War.
In the early days, Ruby enjoyed boating on Kentucky Lake, Florida family vacations, quilting, and sewing for her family. She was a faithful member of Broadway Church of Christ, in Paducah, until her husband's 1993 retirement and their move to Nashville, Tennessee, where they attended Tusculum Church of Christ. Ruby was a member there for 30 years.
Ruby will always be remembered for being caring, funny, never meeting a stranger; faithfully caring for her parents for many years; a wonderful wife to her husband, Randall, a sweet mother to her three children, and a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Ruby was a part of, the Homemakers Club and Lone Oak Junior Womens Club; Second Grade Bible Class teacher at Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah for many years, and a typist for Churches of Christ Disaster Relief, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Kathy Sue Shaffer Padgitt (Kenneth), of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Jane Ann Shaffer McCrum (John), of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; son, Gary Randall Shaffer (Debbie), of Nolensville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Melissa Jane Padgitt, Daniel Lynn Hollingsworth, Courtney Erin Simms, and Chelsey Layne Shaffer; one great-granddaughter, Oakley Erin Coats; several nephews and their families.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Randall Wood Shaffer; her parents, Scott Clark and Lena Holley Clark; her brother, Emmett Edwin Clark, Sr..
A gathering of family & friends for Ruby will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, followed by a celebration of life at 2:30 PM.
