She was preceded in death by husband James R. Fleming and parents Horace H. Gatlin and Opal Wilson Gatlin of Waverly, Tennessee, sisters, Patricia Brigham of Memphis, Tennessee, Betty Hicks of Waverly, Tennessee, brothers, Harry M. Gatlin of Waverly, Tennessee and John W. Gatlin of Antioch, Tennessee. She is survived by sister Wanda L. Warr of Waverly, Tennessee; sons, David A. Fleming, James E. (Vickie) Fleming; daughters, Nancy F. (David) Bunt, Anita A. (Terry) Lowe; three grandsons, Jeremiah J. Trigg, Glenn Bunt, James L. Fleming; two granddaughters, Kathy L. Trigg, Jamie L. Fleming; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte J. Fleming; two great-grandsons, Kaleb C. Trigg and Caiden J. Fleming.
Ruby came to Nashville after graduating from Waverly Central High School in April 1947, where she was employed by National Life Accidental Insurance Company for 8 1/2 years. She met and married James R. Fleming in April 1951 at Waverly Place Methodist Church. After leaving National Life she was employed by Donelson Child Development Center in Donelson, Tennessee. She served as secretary for Baker-Harwell Real Estate and was Secretary of the Year in 1978, and worked many years before retiring. Ruby also played woman's softball at the age of 49 and 50 years old. She was a life long Methodist and member of Donelson Heights Methodist Church at 84 Fairway Drive in Donelson, Tennessee. She served as secretary for one year and a Sunday School teacher for the Tinnon Class, Fellowship Class and the Children's Sunday School class for many years. She was a member of the choir and the United Methodist Women. When needed, she played the organ for the church and was an avid piano player. Ruby loved her family and she also loved sewing, cooking and crocheting.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 20th, 2019 from the chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home with Rev. Regina Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Historic Mount Olivet Cemetery with Jeremiah Trigg, Glenn Bunt, James Fleming, Kaleb Trigg, David Bunt and Terry Lowe serving as casket bearers.The Tinnon Class of Donelson Heights Methodist Church will serve as honorary casket bearers.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday, December 19th from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and prior to the service on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
