He is survived by his sons, David Cherry and Austin Welker; his close friend and brother-in-law, Ronnie Weaver; grandson Khayson Cherry; granddaughters, Jhayce Cherry, Avery Welker; mother, Margaret Nell Akines; sisters, Tina Adams and Ramona (Dave) Riling; adopted father Roy (Liz) Cherry; nieces, Rachel (Mike) Sokoloff, Lindsay (Rick) Mulholland; nephews, Bill (Amber) Akines III, Chris (Erin) Riling, Jeff (Summer), Jason(Josette), Mike(Heather); great-nieces, Maggie Akines, Brooklyn Barton, Kelsey Gregory; great-nephews, Cooper Akines, Sawyer Akines, Brayden Barton, TJ Gregory, Jayme Gregory, Cameron Gregory and many other family members.
Roy maintained a simple life. Struggling most of his life with addictions, he had overcome them and made peace with our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. In typical “Butch” fashion, there are no services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A celebration of life will be held at Center Chapel Church of Christ in Mt. Juliet on Sunday, July 16th at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Still Waters, a 12-step immersion program designed for men and women seeking recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Please go to www.cumberlandheights.org and from there click the 3 lines in the upper right-hand corner, select “donate” and then under designation please select “Still Waters Patient Assistance.” This will help provide scholarships for those who may not be able to afford the opportunity otherwise. If you prefer to donate via check or venmo, please contact Ramona Riling at 615.599.5770.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HibbettHaileyFH.com for the Cherry family.
