Rollin Barnes

He was preceded in death by parents Francis Newton Barnes and Mary Meek Barnes and sister Emily Andrews.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Ann Tompkins Barnes; sons Rollin M Barnes Jr. “Barney” (Kim) of Mt Juliet, TN; Barry Newton Barnes (Karen) of Mt Juliet TN; Christopher Lanier Barnes of Nashville, TN; two grandchildren Andrew Newton Barnes and Kaitlyn Reilly Barnes.

Ron attended Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He played one year of basketball for Duke University before going on to graduate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville ,TN.

Along with spending his early years growing up in Coshocton, Ron enjoyed spending his summers with family and friends at Lake Chautauqua in NY.

Ron worked as a sportswriter and loved spending time with his family, his numerous dogs over the years and cheering on Ohio State Football. He enjoyed reading, raising and showing dogs, watching sports, and seeing the world on the over 18 cruises he and Ann went on.

Visitation will be January 12, 2024 from 12:00-2:00 pm with funeral service immediately following at Mt Olivet Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to one of Ron’s favorite charitable organizations, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or March of Dimes
