Roland Thacker, age 96, beloved husband, brother, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 24th, 2016 in Smyrna, TN. He was born in Anderson, Alabama on November 5th, 1919 to a family with seven brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his father, Johnathan Alexander Thacker and mother, Lillie Belle Hubbard, his beloved wife of 72 years, Mabel Louise Thacker, three sisters Jewell, Tressie, and Maybelle, as well as four brothers Calvin, Henry Alexander, and Bollin. Mr. Thacker is survived by his two children, Janet Will (Richard) of Waseca, Minnesota and Ronnie Thacker (Debra) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; four grandchildren; eight great grand children, one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. A veteran of World War II, he served as a private first-class in Germany where he earned a Bronze Star for distinguished service and bravery in the midst of combat. He served as a farm hand on his mother’s farm before and after his time in the service. He also served as a foreman with Marion Construction for over 20 years building many of the interstate bridges in Middle Tennessee. He was an avid gardener with his wife and had a particular love for basketball, which he played in school growing up. He was a member of Florence Church of Christ in Murfreesboro TN. A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton funeral home in Nashville.
