Bob, as he was known, was born in Nashoba, Oklahoma on August 9, 1929 to Cecil William, Sr. and Emily Cent Todd, and was one of eleven children. His father served in WWI and met Emily in Paris, France while recovering from injuries incurred during the war. Bob grew up in Nashoba and graduated from Clayton High School in 1948. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. After his military service, he attended college at Golden Gate University in San Francisco and the University of Tennessee in Nashville, where he had met and married his first wife, Sue Ann Padgett, in 1955. They had two sons, Robert Kevin and Michael Charles.
In Nashville, Bob worked for Moore-Handley for thirteen years and for Tennessee Building Products for twenty-five years before retiring in 1994. He and Sue were long-time members of South Trinity Presbyterian Church and later, First Presbyterian Church. They moved to Killeen, TX in 1997 to be near his son and grandchildren. Sue passed away a few months later in December 1997. In May 2000, he married Violet (Gidget) Todd, a year after they had met at a dance. She is the mother of three wonderful children, Sean Michael Novak, Jeanine Reneé Grutter, and Brian Allen Novak. Bob and Gidget enjoyed travel and spending time with family.
He was an avid golfer and a regular at the Stone Tree Golf Club where he shot two hole-in-ones at the ages of 83 and 85, a member of the Killeen Kickers Square Dance Club where he enjoyed dancing and teaching others, and he liked playing cards. He served as president of the Gilmore Senior Center for three years, and he was a member and elder of The Presbyterian Church of Salado in Salado, TX.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Emily, his first wife, Sue, siblings TR and his wife Grace, Bill and his wife Glenna, June Joslin and her husband Johnny, John D. and his wife Katharina, Cecil, and Harry, as well as his sister in-law, Wanda Todd, and brother in-law, Larry Young.
He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife, Violet (Gidget) and her children, Sean Novak and his wife Cynthia, Jeanine and her husband James Grutter, and Brian Novak; Bob’s sons Kevin Todd of Atlanta, GA and Mike Todd of Terlingua, TX; grandchildren Andrew Todd and his wife Laura of Indianapolis, IN and Kimberly Todd (Daniel) of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren Isabella and Charlie of Indianapolis; siblings Lee Todd of Richland, MO, Grady Todd and his wife Donna of Carthage, MO, Josie Young of Stockton, MO, and Don Todd and his wife Sally of Millington, TN; sisters in-law Linda Todd of Branson West, MO and Donna Todd of Portland, OR as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Bob will be dearly missed for his witty sense of humor, winning charm, devotion to family, and his love of God.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Presbyterian Church of Salado or your favorite charity. Interment will be at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville, TN on Friday, March 15, 2024 where visitation will be from 9AM to 11AM and immediately followed by a graveside service. A celebration of life service will be held at The Presbyterian Church of Salado in Salado, TX on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 11AM.
