He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Lockwood Head Fitts, and by his parents, William H. and Gladys M. Fitts.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Elizabeth Head Hawkins (husband Aaron Thomas); and their children, Isabel, Eden and Caleb. He is also survived by his sister, Patsy Fitts Reed (husband JD); as well as nephew, Brian Reed; niece, Tracey Reed; great nephews, Alex and Owen; and several cousins.
Bob lived most of his life in Nashville, attending Julia Green Elementary School and Hillsboro High School. He graduated from his pride and joy, the University of Tennessee.
He spent his career playing with numbers, working at Equitable Securities, JC Bradford, Smith Barney and finally The Rainmaker Companies.
He was always ready with a good joke or pun with that twinkle in his eye. You knew whatever you were saying was going to get turned into some funny pun. He loved to volunteer with the Junior Chamber, helping long past the age cutoff. He was a huge UT fan, especially during football season, attending as many games as possible. Orange was his favorite color.
Once Bob got to know you, through work or play, you stayed his friend - of which he had many. Golf was his passion playing until his back would no longer allow it. He won many tournaments, although in later years it might have been due to his ridiculously high handicap. He was once named the worst golfer in all of Nashville.
The family would like to thank the staff of Belmont Village, especially his ever patient PALS Eleene and Hirut, and the drivers Patricia and Kimberly. And thanks to Heart’n Soul Hospice for their kind and gentle care.
A Celebration of Life party will be held at Joe’s Place on Bandywood on Friday, April 7th from 3:30pm to 6:30pm. Be sure to wear your orange or bright colors, think of a good joke and drink a toast to a fine fellow.
