Ramel was born to his father Bernie C. Bailey and mother, Pearl Bailey on February 13, 1936 in the town of Erwin, Tennessee.
Ramel graduated from Erwin High School in 1955. The day after graduation, Ramel joined the United States Air Force. After serving in the Air Force, he worked in electronics and sound with General Electric, Magnavox and he then became self-employed.
Ramel was a dedicated and loving husband. He was very active in his church, and taught Sunday bible classes at Saturn Drive Baptist Church, Lakewood Baptist Church and Whitsett Baptist churches for 30 years.
Ramel was, also, an enthusiastic fan of the Tennessee Vols. On any given Saturday, during football season, you could hear the roar of Rocky Top playing.
Ramel was, also known and best remembered as a deacon, electronics repairman, a handyman who could repair anything and better known for teaching the bible for 30 yrs.
Ramel joins his mother, father, seven brothers and one sister in Heaven. Ramel is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Betty Jennings Bailey, sisters Betty (Wayne) Slagle of Salt Lake City, Utah; Gail (Eddie) Bailiff of Clinton, TN and Brenda (Millard) Day of Lenoir City, TN
The family would like to thank the Amedisys Hospice Team for their support, encouragement and care during Ramel’s final journey. The family would also like to thank our Whitsett Church family, our friends, our neighbors and all others who took the time to extend love, support, prayers and encouragement to our family, and most importantly, to Ramel. We truly are deeply humbled and forever grateful for your demonstration of love.
There will be a visitation for Ramel on Tuesday July 19th from 5-7 pm and on Wednesday July 20th from 10 am until service time at 12 noon at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home 429 Donelson Pike Nashville, TN 37214. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Thompson Lane.
Ramel’s funeral and burial services will be officiated by Pastor and Brother Keith Cameron, Pastor Mike Mayo and Brother Ken Coleman.
