Peter Munro Kennedy, age 81, passed away peacefully after a long illness on June 25, 2024. He was born February 27, 1943, in Nashville, TN, the son of the late Thomas Peters Kennedy, Jr. and Elizabeth Battelle Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy attended grade school at Robertson Academy, middle and high school at Battleground Academy, and graduated cum laude from Culver Military Academy. He completed undergraduate studies at Williams College and graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1965. He then obtained his Masters of Business Administration at Florida State University, cementing his role as a lifelong, fierce Seminoles fan. Following his graduation, he entered the banking business, working for many years as a vice president at Third National Bank and enjoying brief fame in a local ad campaign as the "IRA Answer Man." He spent the rest of his career as President of Kennedy Investments, Inc., a firm founded by his father.
In addition to Mr. Kennedy's love of the Seminoles and college sports in general, his lifetime passion was any form of fishing - bass fishing on Center Hill Lake, saltwater fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida Keys, and a bucket list trip to Alaska with his son-in-law and grandsons. He also had a huge heart for animals, and there will be a long line of adoring dogs and a few very spoiled cats waiting to greet him in heaven.
Along with his parents, Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his brothers, George Augustus Shwab III and Thomas Peters Kennedy III, and his sister Eugenia Allen Rose. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Deborah Archey Kennedy, his daughters Elizabeth Kennedy Hammond and her husband Richard, of Nashville, TN, and Katherine Kennedy Flouhouse and her husband Gerald, of Columbia, SC, and grandsons Harry Gerald Flouhouse III and William Kennedy Flouhouse. Mr. Kennedy is also survived by his sisters Elizabeth Shwab Stephen of Charlevoix, MI, and Margaret Kennedy Brown and her husband The Rev William Hill Brown III, of Richmond, VA, and their families, and his brother-in-law Jeffrey Archey and his wife Renita of Cleveland, TN.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Richland Place and Centennial Medical Center, along with his physicians Dr. Bal, Dr. Haitas, and Dr. Parikh and their teams, for helping and guiding us over the past few years.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, June 27th from 3:00 - 6:00pm at Mount Olivet Funeral Home, 1101 Lebanon Pike, Nashville. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Alive Hospice of Nashville, Martha O'Bryan Center, the Nashville Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
