Born November 22, 1936 in Nashville, TN, she was the daughter of the late Robert Norman Hurt and Oda Elizabeth Jackson. She attended Howard High School before marrying her sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Stewart. After returning to Nashville from Alaska, she worked at Atlantic Envelope Company and spent most of her career as a buyer for Moskovitz Department Store in Donelson, TN. She spent her later years working for Carter's Children's Wear at Opry Mills. Peggy had a green thumb and was known for her beautiful arrangement of flowers in her yard and well known for her cooking. Our Mom was a compassionate, strong, beautiful woman who, when tough times arose, met them head-on. Nothing was too much for her to overcome. There was not a sick person she did not help take care of and not one who went hungry that she did not provide a meal. Our Mom had a servant's heart, who helped others without expecting something in return, and we know she is with the Lord in Heaven. Peggy was an active member of Lebanon Road Church of Christ, serving many years faithfully where her husband was a deacon.
Survivors include her children, Sharon (Bill) Ford of Murfreesboro; Marsha Hardin of La Vergne; Liz (Donald) Nicholson of Murfreesboro, Kelly Williams of Columbia, Eight grandchildren, Nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years Robert Marshall Stewart, Stepfather Shelie (Casey) Jones, sisters Ada Beatrice Chrisman and Anna Pearl Crawford, brother Coach Ben Hurt, and special sister-in-law and dear friend, Margaret Stewart Eaton.
Active pallbearers will be family. The family would like to thank Azalea Court for their love, compassion, friendship, and devotion to our Mom. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mountolivet.com for the Stewart family.
